Hello from Selene!
Fifteen years ago, Selene made its debut with the release of two wines. One of those wines was the 1992 Selene Sauvignon Blanc from Hyde Vineyards. Now I have the pleasure of offering you our latest release, the 15th Anniversary bottling of the Sauvignon Blanc from Hyde Vineyards. Thanks to everyone at Hyde, especially Larry Hyde for making it a fun 15 years, and to everyone who has kept this project growing, by enjoying what goes in the bottle. Here are my tasting notes for the celebratory 2006 Vintage:
2006 Selene Sauvignon Blanc, Hyde Vineyards. Nectarine, pear, honeydew melon, papaya, and pineapple notes are the first aromatics you notice, followed by tangerine and lemon curd. All this developed fruit translates very well on the palate, which is marked by creamy texture and balanced by crisp acidity. The depth, complexity and intensity of the flavors carry through on the long, delicious finish. – 1908 cases
The other wine that started the Selene label was the 1991 Selene Merlot. Merlot fans who wondered about the sabbatical we took (to start the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Chesler Red Wine programs) will be happy to hear that Selene Merlot is back! After a two-vintage breather, we are releasing our new vineyard-designate Merlot. We only made 290 cases, so it will go quickly. Here are my tasting notes:
2005 Selene Merlot, Frediani Vineyard. This wine offers aromas of black cherry, boysenberry, blueberry, and blackcurrant fruits, leading to earthy dark chocolate, rose petal floral, exotic sweet spice. The fruit comes through with immediate impact and intensity in the mouth; the texture is fine and chewy with soft tannins; the ultra-long finish invites another sip. The wine is delicious now, but if you can manage to resist temptation it will age nicely for 6-10 years. – 290 cases.
