2009 Winter Release

Hello from Selene!

Harvest 2008 will be one that goes down in the history books for Selene Wines. Those of you that have been following our adventures on the Selene Wines Blog know that I made a 2008 Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon! It was fun to make, and I hope everyone enjoys it.

2008 Selene Rosé Wine Napa Valley, (100% Cabernet Sauvignon)
This is a purpose-made Rosé, rather than a Saignée. Grapes were crushed and left to soak overnight to pick up some color, a bit of tannin, and the rich character that only a purpose-made rose can attain. Pressing was very gentle to maintain the perfect balance achieved by the skin contact. The juice was fermented in stainless steel barrels with a slow-fermenting yeast that took four weeks to reach dryness. Lees were stirred weekly.

Here are my tasting notes: Alpine strawberries, pomegranate, slight kiwi, and white chocolate in the nose. Those same flavors as well as some rhubarb are well integrated in the mouth, creating quite an exceptional intensity, length, and richness. A rose you won’t forget. Only 90 cases produced. $20.00/bottle.

We have two Library Releases!
1999 was the second in a short string of cooler than normal vintages in Napa, at least up until the latter part of September. It was then that high pressure in the Big Basin began to heat the ripening weather up. This is better known in our parts as ‘Indian Summer’ and it helped to make the ’99 vintage ripe and rich. Both of these wines have a lot of life left and are really drinking well now.

1999 Selene Merlot Blackbird Vineyard. This is a limited library release of 750ml bottles and 1.5L magnums!
