2004 Chesler Red Wine

We are excited about the release of our 2004 Chesler Napa Valley Red Wine.  Tracy and I have poured this at a few recent events, and the feedback has been incredible.  We even have these great reviews we wanted to share with you:

Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate #174, December 2007
Displaying even more style and elegance, the 2004 Chesler exhibits a deeper ruby/purple color along with opulent, full-bodied flavors of crème de cassis, sweet cherries, licorice, and spice box.  It is a broad, savory, rich, full-bodied red that retains the hallmark elegance and purity for which Mia Klein’s winemaking is known.  It should drink well for 10-15 years.  Drink 2007 to 2022.  92 points.

Wine Spectator’s Insider, May 2008
Smooth, elegant and intense, with fragrant currant and herb notes are ripe and juicy, with cola, tea, cedar, tobacco and spice accents with a long, lingering finish. Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2014.—J.L. 92 points.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine, October 2007
Quite delicious, a modern-style wine with soft richness, with enough tannin-acid balance to counterpoise the enormously ripe blackberry, cherry, cassis, chocolate, Kahlúa and new oaky, cedar-spice flavors.  SH  93 points.

For this vintage of Chesler, I co-fermented the Cabernet Franc and Merlot together.  I believe that is one of the things that makes this wine so seamless.  Because the two varieties are usually harvested at different times, it’s not often we get the chance to co-ferment them.  The Cabernet Sauvignon from Stagecoach came in 4 weeks later than the Franc and Merlot from Frediani, so it did not get to join the party; however, the 18% of Cab in this blend does impart a wonderful deep blackberry to the flavor profile of the wine.

We are keeping the price the same as the previous vintages at $70.00 a bottle.  Here’s my tasting notes:

Blackberries and blueberries; sweet, exotic spice, caramel, toasted vanilla, a floral violet character.  Excellent initial impact in the mouth; very intense and long flavors with a sappy, rich texture that is full, but seamless.

Don’t forget, we are now providing “shipping included” pricing on all orders over $100.00.
